This is our weekly check on the Canadian sales battle between CDs and the vinyl

It’s still early, but so far vinyl is running away with the sales race over CDs in Canada and I have doubts that the story will change much over the next eleven months. I can’t see a situation when a surge in CD sales might happen. It’s highly likely that by the time things click over into 2026, we’ll see something that hasn’t existed since the early 90s.

  • CDs sold in Canada last week: 27,295 (down 0.9% from the previous week)
  • Vinyl LPs sold in Canada last week: 32,502 (up 6.2% from a week earlier)
  • CDs sold in Canada so far this year: 87,182 (down 3.7% from this point in 2024)
  • Vinyl LPs sold in Canada so far this year: 102,616 (up 0.9% from a year ago).

Looking at streaming:

  • Songs streamed in Canada last week: 2,788,341,488 (up 0.2% from a week earlier)
  • Songs streamed in Canada so far in 2025: 8,224,019,728 (up 10.4% from a year ago)
