This Sounds Like an Interesting Movie: Vinyl

Phil Daniels (the Cockney voice in Blur’s “Parklife” and Jimmy in the movie version of Quadrophenia) and Keith Allen (Lilly’s comedian father) start in Vinyl, which is loosely based on a story involving the Alarm, the quite brilliant Welsh band that had a number of important records in the 80s.

Sadly for the Alarm, they went out of fashion in the 90s and all but disappeared.  Too old, they were told. Yesterday’s news.  Ta-ta, lads.

But then in 2004, they scammed the entire British music industry by releasing a hit single entitled “45 RPM” posing as an entirely ficticious teen group called The Poppy Fields.

That story has been translated into a movie which will open in UK cinemas next month.  This has promise.

Here’s the song in question.  Scroll down for another great Alarm video.
