Thousands of Billy Talent fans stormed the fences at a concert in Niagara

Over the Canadian August long weekend, Billy Talent played a free show in Port Colborne, Ontario, as part of a festval called Canal Days. About 10,000 people were expected. That’s not what happened.

The venue, H.H. Knoll Park, quickly reached capacity for Saturday’s (Aug 3) gig around 9:30, so police decided to close things down to prevent overcrowding. At that point, the crowd had swelled to 25,000. That’s when the fun began

At the time the gates closed, there were up to 5,000 people hoping to get in. They weren’t having any of it, either. Cops were challenged and security guards got pushed around. One officer ended up with minor injuries. As for the crowd, there were about 15 minor injuries.

Alcohol sales were shut down as a precaution.

Organizers and authorities talked to Billy Talent about the situation and the decision was made to let the concert continue. If they hadn’t, things could have turned very weird.
