TikTok launches a new channel on SiriusXM

After partnering with an Australian broadcaster to open a terrestrial radio station Down Under, TikTok and SiriusXM have announced the debut of a channel on satellite radio. This is a “full-time music channel” that will feature TikTok stars in the roles of DJs.

SiriusXM says “The channel will feel like a radio version of the platform’s ‘For You’ page. The TikTok Radio channel will feature a diverse group of TikTok creators showcasing trending music and stories behind the songs throughout each day, as well as a weekly music countdown dedicated to TikTok’s top trending tracks.”

Okay, so if TikTok’s main users are under 25, what’s the point of a channel on a platform that (a) costs money and (b) is consumed mostly in the car. I guess the idea is to target the parents of TikTokers.

Gee, I though traditional linear broadcasting was dead. Huh.

  • Australia listens to music differently than Canada and the US, I have always marveled at the spectrum of music Australian’s consume in regular radio play, light years beyond what happens on our airwaves.
