Time for another check on the Canadian sales battle between CDs and vinyls

Apologies for the lateness of this week’s numbers, but I’ve been traveling, something that included a miserable redeye flight. Still, the Canadian music industry barrels on.

According to Luminate, here is how things look when it comes to the Canadian sales battle between CD and vinyl (and only new vinyl, nothing used).

  • Total CDs sold in Canada so far this year: 862,735 (-15.8% from a year ago)
  • Total vinyl sales so far this year: 770,924 (up 32.4% from this point in 2024)
  • Total CD sale last week: 31,720 (down -1.6% from the week before)
  • Total vinyl sales last week: 24,542 (down 0.7% from a week earlier(

Streaming? Sure!

  • 2.728 billion streams last week (-0.5% from a week earlier)
  • 73,393,442,487 streams so far this year (up 11.3% from this point in 2023)
