Time for our weekly check on the Canadian CD vs vinyl sales battle

As the recorded music industry heads into the busiest three months of the year, here are the latest Luminate figures on which format is winning the CD vs vinyl sales battle. Will CDs be victorious in 2024? Or will it be vinyl?

  • Total CDs sold in all of Canada so far this year: 1,115,651 (down 13.5% from this point last year)
  • Total fresh vinyl sold in the country so far this year: 973,450 (up 29.3%)
  • CDs sold last week: 33,154 (up 1.2% from a week earlier)
  • Vinyl sold last week: 25,457 (down 10.9% from the previous week)

If we look at streaming:

  • Songs streamed last week: 2,703,141,257 (up for 1.4% from last week)
  • Canadians have streamed 95,157,966,225 songs so far this year (up 10.7% from the previous week)
