Time for our weekly check on the Canadian CDs vs vinyl sales battle

With only days left in 2024, the number of CDs sold will once again be greater than that of vinyl–but not by much. Who knows what will happen in 2025? Will we end up back in 1990? Probably.

Here are these week’s CDs vs vinyl sales stats courtesy Luminate:

  • Total CDs sold in Canada last week: 45,652 (up 14.5% from the previous week)
  • Total vinyl sold in Canada last week: 56,382 (up 38.6%. And that doesn’t yet include the numbers from the Black Friday edition of Record Store Day)
  • CDs sold in Canada this year: 1,537,847 (down 12.9% from 2023)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada this week: 1,400,465 (up 23.8% from a year ago)

Streaming? Sure.
