Today is national #TakeoutDay in Canada–and there’s a kitchen party

Two things I know to be true: (1) People are getting really, really tired of their own cooking; and (2) Restaurants across the country are getting killed by the coronavirus. Here’s how you can help with both issues right now.

Today (April 15) has been declared national #TakeoutDay across Canada, which exists to convince everyone to order food from their favourite local restaurant. It could be a pickup order (keep your distance!) or a delivery direct from the establishment (my favourite Chinese place does that). And there’s always There’s Skip The Dishes, Doordash, Uber Eats and a few other companies that will handle things for you.

So what does this have to do with music? There’s Canada’s Great Kitchen Party – Home Edition, which will feature some famous people offering entertainment for anyone enjoying their takeout food.

Performers include Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, Tom Cochrane, Sam Roberts. Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies and whoever else will drop in (virtually, of course.) George Stroumboulopoulos will host.

The event starts tonight at this Facebook page. More information can be found at FYIMusicNews.ca.

Me? I’m feeling like Thai tonight.
