Today, May 8, is THE LOUDEST DAY OF THE YEAR. Here’s why.
May 8th is a momentous day in the world of metal. This year marks the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest thrash metal songs of all time: Motorhead’s Ace of Spades.
My first exposure to “Ace of Spades” came on Winnipeg’s 92 CITI-FM in the spring of 1980. I’d never, ever heard anything that fast and loud and heavy in my life. Even today, I think it’s close to the perfect rock song. Nothing is wasted in that two minutes and forty-five seconds.
Here’s a statement from Motorhead’s people:

A new lyric video to mark the occasion debuted today. And if you go to the band’s Facebook page and Instagram account, you can “warpig” your face with a special filter.
Special merch is also on sale, with proceeds going to Live Nation’s Crew Nation Fund, an organization that’s providing financial aid to all the roadies out there.
