Today is Officially “Tragically Hip Day” in Toronto

As the Tragically Hip pulls into the Air Canada for the first of three shows on their final(?) tour tonight, Mayor John Tory has declared today “Tragically Hip Day.”

The fans should be as good a show as the band. Emotions will be running high and you know that there will be all kinds of spontaneous heartfelt expressions of thanks and support.

If you’re going to any of the shows (tonight, Friday, Sunday), look for a tribute booth built just for the occasion outside of gate 6. Fans will get a chance to commit 30 seconds of personal Hip memories for posterity.

As for the tour itself, so far, so good. The shows have been running about three hours with a couple of intermissions and encores and an ever-changing setlist. No two have been exactly alike since the band hit the road in Victoria on July 22. To follow what’s been performed and when, to go Setlist.fm.

I was supposed to go tonight, but my recovery from kidney stone surgery is taking longer than expected so I had to give up my ticket. Sunday. Hopefully. We’ll see.
