Today’s Sheridan College animation score project: Let’s watch a jazz band score a film in real time

Ever wonder how musical scores are recorded for animated films? How do they give mood and feeling to characters and that aren’t physically in the flesh? A special composing event is being held at Sheridan College in Oakville this Saturday, one that might satisfy your curiosity.

Today (April 7) a 13 piece Jazz ensemble will be teaming up with the Sheridan Animations department, as they record and perform selected works live off the floor. From 10 am – 12 pm musicians will be scoring a video right before your very eyes, the audio will then be mixed down with the video, packaged, performed, all within one hour. (Talk about pressure!)

From 1 pm to 3 pm a panel of Toronto’s finest composers will be sitting down to discuss the freshly squeezed scores as well. The entire event is free and open to the public, and welcomes any and all interested in watching something of this magnitude, go down!
