Tom Cochrane, Jim Cuddy, Greg Keelor, Sarah McLachlan and Diane Tell inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame 

There was another gala event honouring some giants of Canadian music on Saturday night (September 28). Tom Cochrane, Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor (Blue Rodeo), Sarah McLachlan and Diane Tell were all inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame during an event at Massey Hall in Toronto.

Nelly Furtado was a surprise guest, showing up to sing “Angel” with Sarah McLachlan.

At the end of the night, Gary LeVox, frontman for Rascal Flatts, took part in a performance of Cochrane’s “LIfe is a Highway.” There was more, too, with a barefoot Brett Emmons of The Glorious Sons performing “Big League” and Sam Roberts taking care of of the 1979 hit “White Hot.”

There was still more. When it came time to honour Blue Rodeo, country stars Tim Hicks and Tenille Townes performed “Til I Am Myself Again;” Adam Baldwin, Terra Lightfoot,and Matt Mays, were assigned “Hasn’t Hit Me Yet” while Toronto singer-songwriter AHI had his version of “Try.”

Metric‘s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw were part of the Sarah McLachlan segment with a performance of “I Will Remember You.” Then Whitehorse took care of “Sweet Surrender” followed by and “Building A Mystery.”

Quebec singer Diane Tell was also honoured.
