Tom Morello held an anti-ICE benefit in Minneapolis. Bruce Springsteen showed up

Yesterday afternoon (January 30), Tom Morello and Rise Against staged an anti-ICE benefit in Minneapolis at First Avenue, the club made famous by Prince. All proceeds went to the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were murdered by ICE goons in cold blood. The Concert of Solidarity & Resistance To Defend Minnesota came together VERY quickly over just two days. Jazz guitarist Al Di Meola and Ike Reilly also joined in.

Morello’s set was wild, with renditions of both Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave songs. And yes, he did “Killing in the Name.”

Emotions were already running high among the 1,500 people in the audience when Bruce Springsteen suddenly appeared onstage. He, Morello, and the band went through “Streets of Minneapolis,” the anti-ICE song Springsteen wrote, recorded, and released in about five days.

This was a surprise, but at the same time, it wasn’t. Morello and Springsteen have worked together for years. Fans might remember back to 2013 and 2014 when Morello subbed in for Stevie Van Zandt in the E-Street band.
