Top 10 Hockey Songs to Help You Through the Lockout
[Bloody NHL. They’re making record revenues and they choose to shut down? Un-f-ing-believeable. The only thing we can do on this end is make another list. This one comes from Brent Chittenden. – AC]
This week’s list was originally going to be something else completely different but when the hockey walk out happened, I knew I had to put together a list to help out my friends who are now in a panic due to the possible lack of a hockey season. So here you are a list of songs and videos that are all about hockey.
10) The Pursuit of Happiness – Gretzky Rocks
A little bit less rockin’ than they are known for, this is a tribute to one of the best players ever to hit the ice.
9)DOA – Takin’ Care Of Business
While the original was never specifically about hockey (but has become a sports stadium anthem of sorts), I love the DOA video. There’s just something right about Bachman being a coach.
8) Neil Peart – Hockey Night In Canada Theme
Isn’t that drum kit a thing of beauty?
7) The Rheostatics – The Ballad of Wendel Clark parts 1 & 2
A song for all of the Leaf fans who want to remember the better times.
6) Soul Asylum – I Can’t Even Tell
Once again, not a song about hockey but I love the road hockey vibe of the video, directed by film maker and hockey fan, Kevin Smith.
5) The Tragically Hip – 50 Mission Cap
The Hip brought to light the story of Bill Barilko for another generation of hockey fans.
4) Jane Siberry – Hockey
One of the best representations of the sport in music, Siberry really captures the emotions of hockey.
3) Ministry – Keys to The City
Ministry main man Al Jourgensen is a die-hard Black Hawks fan so much so that he put together “Keys To The City” which has become the Hawks 2nd anthem.
2) Warren Zevon – Hit Somebody
For all of you enforcers out there. Kevin Smith at one point was going to turn it into a film.
1) Stompin Tom Connors – The Hockey Song
You didn’t think I’d leave this one off the list did you? Although I imagine it’s now driving some of you to tears. Now I know this list might be making some of you weep out there but maybe this will help cheer you up.
How about Hockey Skates by Kathleen Edwards?
