Top 10 Moustaches in Rock (A Movember Special)
[The newest weekly list from nerdus emeritus, Brent Chittenden. – AC]
In honor of Movember, this week we present a special list. A list to inspire all of you would be mustache growers to heights of greatness. We present the Top Ten Moustaches In Rock n Roll!
10) Derek Smalls (Spinal Tap)
A moustache that rivals Lemmy’s mutton/stache combo, he does lose points for being a fictional character.
9) Nick Cave
Cave very rarely rocks a mustache but when he did during the first Grinderman album cycle, it was a ‘stache that rivaled that of anyone on our list.
8) Frank Zappa
During my research for this list I noticed that Frank’s moustache is rather underrated in terms of rock facial hair. I hope this list changes that.
7) Lemmy (Motorhead. Duh.)
According to official Movember rules, I’m unsure if this counts but how awesome is this? Lemmy grows wicked mutton chops and then connects them via a moustache.
6) Duane Allman (Allman Brothers)
Another classic rocker who’s moustache does change size and type but is always awesome.
5) John Bonham (Led Zeppelin. Again, duh.)
Another rock moustache that is widely unrecognised is that of Bonzo. Great drummer, great moustache.
4) Freddie Mercury
One of the greatest frontmen in rock also had one hell of a ‘stache that was easily identifiable as his teeth.
3) David Crosby
David Crosby’s moustache almost looks like it’s a life form of it’s own and may someday eat passing children or possibly consume Crosby himself.
2) Roger Earl (Foghat)
It’s hard to remember a time of moustaches before Foghat. It’s also really hard to remember Foghat for anything other than “Slow Ride” and moustaches.
1) Jeff Baxter (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, US Defence Dept.)
Best known to music fans from his work with Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter now does a lot of work for the US Defence Department as a defence consultant which means Baxter might also have the best moustache in Washington DC.
There is a lot of facial hair in rock, what up and comers do you think should make this list next year? Please feel free to share your votes below!
John Oates, Arthur Brown, Ron Mael (Sparks)
