Top Ten Zombie Songs

Ah, the dog days of summer are now upon us.

But unfortunately it still means no new episodes of The Walking Dead for the foreseeable future. Sure, World War Z hit theaters but it’s not the book. But fear not, here are ten songs about the living dead for you listening pleasure.

10) Roky Erickson – I Walked With A Zombie

The lyrics are incredible simple but the music is pretty sweet.

9) John Fogerty – Eye of the Zombie

Okay, not the greatest tune Fogerty ever released but it’s kind of interesting to hear an 1980’s era Fogerty combine the themes to Bad Moon Rising and Run Through The Jungle.

8) Goblin – Zombi

Kind of a gimme but this is the theme song for the European release of the original Dawn of the Dead. I know this because I have it and two other versions of the film on dvd… yes, well aware I’m a nerd.

7) Ozzy Osbourne – Zombie Stomp

This hidden gem from Ozzy’s No More Tears album is a really cool combination of Ozzy’s solo career and harkens back to his days with Sabbath. This is truly a song for zombies to stomp to.

6) The Misfits – Astro Zombies

From the original horror punk band, The Misfits reveled in b movie and horror imagery in their songs. This one was inspired by a b movie about zombies… that were created by an astronaut… I would have thought astro zombies would have been from space… go figure.

5) The Cramps – Zombie Dance

An interesting tune regarding how zombies dance… I think…

4) Rob Zombie – Living Dead Girl

Good ol’ Rob gets double points. His last name is Zombie (well… actually it’s Cummings) and the song is about a living dead girl and also contains a bunch of b movie references.

3) The Creepshow – Zombies Ate Her Brains

Out of Burlington, Ontario, The Creepshow released this really quick, kick ass ditty about a woman who had her brains eaten by a zombie.

2) Kirby Krackle  – Zombie Apocalypse

Nerd rock from Seattle, this is the only song on the list to feature a ukulele. Seriously catchy tune that you will be humming the rest of the day.

1) Jonathan Coulton – Re: Your Brains

Framed in the form of an office memo or meeting, this is a great zombie track. It’s also hidden in the Left 4 Dead 2 video game. I think it’s one of two songs on the list that you can really sing along with.
