Toronto Indie Band Adopts Kid’s Drawing As Album Artwork
About three years ago, Danger Bees were touring through Fredericton when they happened upon an elementary school art exhibition at a local cat show (the band loves cats).
One drawing stood out. Seven year-old Wyatt Pike’s feline interpretation somehow captured the band’s attention. They snapped a shot with a cell phone and began using it as a logo. For three years.
Let’s put aside the legalities of appropriating someone else’s artwork with permision and focus on the cuteness of this situation, okay? Danger Bees are now making amends.
This week, they dropped by Nackawic Elementary to meet Wyatt. Best they sort everything out before next week’s release of the band’s debut album. Not only does it feature the cat on the cover but it’s also called Wyatt.

Weeks before they met, they tracked down Wyatt in order to get permission. They were shocked when they received the email from Wyatt's mom: “Good Evening and greetings from Nackawic, NB! It seems as though we can shine some light on your shot in the dark regarding Wyatt & the Cat Masterpiece. We would be happy to grant you permission to use the artwork for your band! We have been listening to you online and checked out your Facebook site. Funny that you should love Harvey's (hamburgers I assume), cats and video games. Wyatt too loves hamburgers, all animals (he is a bit of an animal whisperer and has quite a way with them) and video games (as much as mother allows! lol). Wyatt's other big love is for hockey where he plays as a goalie.”
