Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre won’t be closing down just yet

Earlier this year, we heard that the venerable Phoenix Concert Theatre, one of Toronto’s most important small venues, was finally being squeezed out of its residential neighbourhood, another victim of gentrification. Although the place was set to close in January, its owners said that they were searching for a new spot to relocate everything.

Well, they have more time. A new agreement has been struck so that the owners have more time with the relocation process, something they hope will result in a smooth transition to the new premises, wherever that may be. The flexibility is much appreciated.

Operations will continue through to sometime in 2026 at 410 Sherbourne. After that? We’ll see. But at least the heat’s off for the time being.
