Tracking the Canadian sales race between CDs and vinyl: Here’s the latest.

Every week, I take a look at the horserace between CDs and vinyl when it comes to selling the most units in Canada. (Vinyl already generates more revenue that CDs because records are so damn expensive. And any sales figures don’t include the amount of used vinyl that moves through indie record stores, record shows, and online.)

Here’s where things stand this week according to Luminate.

  • Total CDs sold in Canada so far in 2024: 767,533 (-15.9% from this point last year)
  • Total vinyl sold in Canada so far this year: 692,121 (+33.4% from 2023)
  • CDs sold in Canada last week: 31,919 (-1.4% from the previous week)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada last week: 26,220 (up 11.0%)

And let’s throw streaming in here:

  • Total audio streams in Canada last week: 2,827,150 (-0.9% from the previous week)
  • Total audio streams in Canada so far this year: 65,167,176,083 (+11.6% from this point last year)
