…Trail of Dead hosting shows to save Horseshoe Tavern, other venues

We all know how crappy 2020 has been for musicians and venues, as hundreds if not thousands of shows have been canceled as a precaution in light of a global pandemic.

….And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead wants to do something about it as an effort to try and keep their fans entertained and to help ensure they’ve got places to play when it’s safe to do so.

The Texas-based band announced Tuesday a series of livestream concerts, a portion of profits from which will go to music venues and record stores in the United States and Canada and other international efforts to support music fans.

The first of the three shows, set for July 31, will benefit the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, in addition to Ottawa’s spectrasonic and 18 other establishments, all of which the band was set to play, or did play, in 2020. There will be limited-edition merch, just like regular concerts, for the July 31 livestream.

A total of 20% of the profits from each show will go toward specific places: The July 31st show is 20 venues in the U.S. and Canada; the August 7th show will be “in support of UK and European music fans,” and the August 14th show will benefit independent record stores in the U.S., including all 34 members of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores and several AIMS stores.

“…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead came up with the plan for these livestreams when faced with the reality that touring in 2020 was no longer possible,” the band’s management says. “Earlier this year, the band released their new critically acclaimed 10th studio album X: The Godless Void and Other Stories and embarked on what was going to be a year of touring to celebrate the new LP as well as their 25th anniversary. All this came to a grinding halt in mid-March and with the pandemic wreaking havoc in the U.S. and beyond, Trail of Dead decided to create three full-band livestream performances for their fans that would also provide some financial assistance to the venues and record stores that have supported the band throughout their career and in 2020, when these folks most need it.”

Each show will feature a different set list inspired by fan requests and some rarities that might not have been performed in concert previously.

Tickets are now available for the July 31st show and can be purchased via the website for each venue, including the Horseshoe Tavern and spectrasonic. More information on the concerts can be found here
