Trump’s people no longer say the Trump smartphone is “made in America” because it’s made in China.
Trump, the dumbest and most dangerous president in American history, knows he can grift his MAGA supporters into buying anything that has his name on it. In the past, everything that Trump tried died (steaks, airlines, vodka, a university, casinos, a magazine, etc. etc. etc.) but now, the MAGA faithful seem happy to lap up Trump sneakers, Trump watches, Trump bibles (etc. etc. etc.).
The latest thing is the T1 Phone 8002, a “Trump Smartphone” that is “MADE IN AMERICA.” Except it’s not. It’s made in China. In fact, people figured this out within seconds of its announcement. The first tip was the price: US$499, an impossible price point for something manufactured in the US. Most of the key components aren’t sourceable from American companies and are made in places like China. Gotcha.
Sometime over the last week, all the MADE IN AMERICA lies have been scrubbed from the website. Instead, we’re fed things like “Premium Performance, Proudly America” and that the phone is “designed with American values in mind,” whatever that means. The MAGA language continues, saying there are “American hands behind every device” and that the phone is an “American-Proud Design.”
Funny how the specs have changed, too. The screen is smaller and there’s no indication of the size of the device’s onboard RAM.
Will it ship in September? Nope. Now it’s “later this year.” Looks like there are supplier issues.
Question: With Trumpy threatening tariffs on Apple, Samsung, and other smartphone makers, will the T1 8002 be subject to the same thing given that it’s actually a Chinese device? What do you think?
