Turnstile’s ex-guitarist could face life in prison

Fans of Turnstile knew something was weird when the band issued a press release on August 12, 2022, saying that founding guitarist Brady Ebert had been kicked out of the band. It was just a few months before a big headlining tour. He’d been missing from the lineup several times when the band went on the road.

It takes a lot for someone to get kicked out of a band, especially if the guy had been there since the beginning. What was going on?

Digging into the story, there seemed to be some friction with drummer Daniel Fang, who had filed a peace order against Ebert on August 4. It was dismissed on August 11. Ebert was out the next day.

More details have since come out. Ebert has been charged with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly running over William Yates, the 79-year-old father of singer Brendan Yates, with a car on March 29.

It’s alleged that Ebert got into the face of Mr. Yates and Brendan. He drove to Mr. Yates home in Silver Springs, Maryland, and nearly hit him with his 2001 Buick LeSabre. Mr. Yates dodged the car and threw a rock at it. Ebert wasn’t going to let that go, so he backed up and ran over Mr. Yates, who suffered a severely broken leg.

When he was arrested, Ebert claimed he was acting in self-defence because Mr. Yates attacked him. Turnstile then released this statement: “Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community… We have no language left for Brady.”

An indictment came down in Baltimore on April 30. The charges are first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree assault. He’s looking at up to 30 years in prison, maybe more.
