U2 Launches a Tiered Contest to Raise Money for (RED)

U2 will be on the road again next year, probably (maybe?) touring behind a new album. They’ve just launched a new multi-tiered contest to raise money for their (RED) charity, specifically ensuring that mothers in Africa will get access to life-saving AIDS medication. Every dollar raised in (RED)’s 10th anniversary year will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The grand prize in all this is:

  • Airfare and 4-star accommodations for you and a friend to get to the location of the band’s dress rehearsal
  • A meet-and-greet with the band during sound check
  • Tickets to the full dress rehearsal

The more money you donate, the more chances you have to win. For example, ten bucks will get you 100 entries. Fifty bucks will net you 500 entries plus a (RED) branded notebook. If you have serious cash and can plunk down $5,000, that’s 50,000 entries. And if you have $75,000, you’ll have 750,000 golden tickets plus you’ll receive a (RED) Edition guitar signed by the band.
