Dudes: Read this carefully. It may reduce the incidences of you being swiped left.
There isn’t a guy on the planet who hasn’t wondered why so many butt-ugly male rock stars–Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Marilyn Manson, Gene Simmons, etc.–are attractive to women. A new study from Abertay University in Scotland found that “less attractive faces” were judged to be more popular if their pictures were associated with images that somehow insinuated that the men had a creative streak within.
The test was sort of complicated (you can read about it here), but it came be summed up with this quote: “Creative guys with less attractive faces were almost identical in attractiveness to really good lucking guys who judged to be not as creative.”
Before you ask, yes, they tried the tests in the opposite direction. They found that creativeness did nothing to make attractive women more attractive. They even found that associating creativity with less attractive women made them even less attractive. I know. It’s not fair.
So why does this work for guys? Evolutionary biology. Again, I quote: “Creativity is thought to be a signal that an individual can invest time and effort into a particular task in novel ways that may be useful for survival.”
Translated that means a creative male is seen as a better mate and a better choice for procreation, despite his looks.
Bottom line is that if you’re an average-l0oking dude, find a way to make your Tinder profile more creative. Otherwise, you’re gonna keep getting swiped left.
