Van Weezer? “It’s time to start shredding again,” says Rivers Cuomo

Within seconds of announcing the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy, Weezer let everyone know about a new album entitled Van Weezer, set for release in May 2020.

The new record will feature ten tracks that will feature the hard rock side(!!!) of Weezer as they indulge in their love for Metallica, KISS, Black Sabbath, and, yes, Van Halen.

Rivers Cuomo says “The inspiration came from our live shows, where, in the middle of ‘Beverly Hills’, unlike on the album, everything stops and I just break out with this crazy guitar solo. We noticed that, recently, the crowd just goes crazy when I do that. So it feels like maybe the audience is ready for some shredding again.”

Interesting fact: This new album was produced by a woman, something we see far too little of in the music industry. Her name is Suzy Shinn.

Here’s an early sample of what to expect.
