Video discovered of a Kurt Cobain solo set from 1992

Even when you think you’ve discovered everything about Nirvana, there are still those occasions where you’re surprised by something you did not know.

On September 26, 1992, almost a year to the day after the release of Nevermind, Kurt showed up at a gig in Castaic, California, for a show featuring Sonic Youth, Pavement, and Mudhoney. At this point, Nirvana was the hottest band in the world.

Turns out someone had a camera. The footage is kind of shakey, but still…

During the set, Kurt stepped up onstage and played a song with Mudhoney.

Then the rolled through a few solo songs, including the Leadbelly song “Where Did You Sleep Last Night,” which, of course, Nirvana would cover during their MTV Unplugged performance.
