Voting has begun on the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize. Which of these classic Canadian albums should win?

Now that the Polaris Music Prize is over for another year, attention turns to the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize.

Given that Polaris is less than 20 years old, there are decades of Canadian albums that never had an opportunity to be recognized in the same way. The Heritage Prize is an attempt to fix that retroactively fix that.

Here are this year’s 12 nominations:

The Band — Music From Big Pink
Robert Charlebois & Louise Forestier — Lindberg
D.O.A. — Hardcore ’81
Sarah Harmer — You Were Here
k.d. lang — Ingénue
Maestro Fresh Wes — Symphony In Effect
Main Source — Breaking Atoms
Sarah McLachlan — Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Joni Mitchell — Court And Spark
Stan Rogers — Fogarty’s Cove
Buffy Sainte-Marie — It’s My Way
Weakerthans — Left And Leaving

In the end, there will be two winners: one picked by members of the Polaris jury and another voted on by the public.
