Voting is now open for the 2025 Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize

For the last 20 years, the Polaris Music Prize has been awarded to the best new album of the past 12 months without regard to genre or commercial success. But what about all the albums that were released prior to the establishment of Polaris? Shouldn’t they be recognized, too?

That’s where the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize comes in. It’s a companion thing to the main Polaris prize and honours records released previous to 2006.

Here are this year’s nominees–which is esoteric to say the least. The public will declare one winner while another will be determined by the Heritage Prize committee, which is made up of music industry people across the country.

Choclair – Ice Cold
The Constantines – The Constantines
Franck Dervieux – Dimension M
Do Make Say Think – Goodbye Enemy Airship, The Landlord Is Dead
Doughboys – Crush
Dubmatique – La force de comprendre
Mort Garson – Mother Earth’s Plantasia
The Organ – Grab That Gun
Propagandhi – Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes
Rascalz – Cash Crop
Jane Siberry – The Speckless Sky
Strawberry – Brokeheart Audio

Go here to vote. We’ll learn of the winner in September at the Polaris Gala in September.
