Promoting your music through the various social media platforms isn’t just a good idea but bloody essential. A YouTube video. Some samples on SoundCloud. Postings on Bandcamp and Reverb. Making sure your music is on Spotify and all the other streaming music services. Twitter posts. Facebook.
And then there’s Instagram, which has rapidly become one of the Must-Have apps. But what’s the most effective way to use Instagram?
A startup called Muvi.io promises to help by “collaborating with micro social influencers on Instagram that can creatively promote their music to fans.” For $12.99 a month, Muvi.io will give you access to a bunch of social influences who will spread the word on what you do. Then there’s the additional cost: “Artists can search by pricing, influencer’s preference of music and type of collaboration an influencer offers.” I read that as “you’ll need to pay more based on the reputation and reach of the influencer you choose.”
The pitch continues:
This can be as simple as an influencer shouting out an artists’ music on their Instagram story which is viewed on average 20,000 times per story or it can be a fitness guru posting a workout video with your song to his 150k followers and shouting out your music in his or her caption. We allow for various collaborations to help new artists market and promote their music to new people.
The real money is being one of these influencers. How does one get that gig?
