Want to be better at video games? Try listening to Linkin Park: Study

Video games without music is unthinkable. But can music make you a better gamer? A new study says it does.

This survey talked to 1,000 video game fanatics, looking at how music might affect their performances, competitiveness, and overall behavior while inside an online game. It turns out that a game’s soundtrack has influence over all these factors.

  • The most popular genre for gaming? Rock with 45% of respondents showing a preference for that, specifically (in order) Linkin Park, Nirvana, and AC/DC.
  • Metal ranks number four. Gamers cite Metallica, Slipknot, and Deftones, as the most popular preferences.
  • Rage quitters are usually country fans (32%)
  • When it comes to online games, fans of EDM tend to be the leaders (23%) with rap/hip-hop coming second (18%), and metal (16%) in third.
  • Rap/hip-hop fans report an 89% win rate.
  • Metal fans are fourth most-likely to win games.
