Wash your hands to your fave song lyrics using this lyrics-to-handwashing poster app

If COVID-19 wasn’t serious enough already, the cancelling of this year’s South by Southwest festival made the music industry stand up and take notice (with next month’s Coachella rumoured to follow suit soon).

We don’t need to see another video from the toilet paper aisle at Costco to realize people are getting panicky, although there are some simple ways to help prevent coronavirus from spreading. Number one with a bullet is HAND HYGIENE. I can’t believe in 2020 we have to remind people on the importance of washing their hands, not just after they’ve used the bathroom but here we are.

Thankfully, a developer and designer out of the UK named William Gibson is here to help us all through the amazingness of song lyrics. He’s made the bare-bones site WashYourLyrics.com where all you have to do is enter a song title and its artist. Your chosen lyrics (sourced from Genius.com) will be added to a handwashing poster that you can sing along to while reinforcing proper techniques and hopefully keeping this disease at bay.

I went for the most sanitizing song I could think of, “Dance Yrself Clean” by LCD Soundsystem, but the creative possibilities are literally endless. Just ask Bill Oakley, the former Simpsons writer behind the infamous “Steamed Hams“.

I mean, have all the fun you want with WashYourLyrics.com but for the love of God please Wash. Your. Hands!

Sincerely,

Someone who doesn’t want to get sick, sick, sick.

PS: British band Foals has created this PSA.

Gilles LeBlanc

Gilles LeBlanc literally fell into “alternative rock” wayyy back at Lollapalooza 1992, where he got caught in his first mosh pit watching some band named Pearl Jam. Since then, he’s spent the better part of his life looking for music to match the liberating rush he felt that day, with a particular chest-beating emphasis on stuff coming out of his native Canada. It took him awhile, but Gilles now writes feverishly about all things that rock (and or roll) through his ROCKthusiast alter ego.
