Watch the Foo Fighters Sing “Happy Birthday” to Dave Grohl’s Mom

If you’ve been to any of the shows on the Foos current tour, you may have spotted a woman sitting on a chair stage (usually) stage right. That’s Virgina Grohl, Dave’s mom, who has been touring with her boy.  Hey, her son has a busted up leg. Mom wants to be there just in case, you know? Besides, she’s apparently writing a book on rock’n’roll moms and is on the road as part of her research. (When the Foos were in Toronto, she spent a lot of time hanging out with Geddy Lee’s mom.)

Ginny–that’s what everyone calls her–has been with the band pretty much every night on this tour and occasionally gets introduced by Dave. The Chicago show was a little different. It was Ginny’s birthday–it was also the birthday of the infamous Cousin Tracey, the relative that introduced a young David to punk rock by taking him to a Naked Raygun show, his first-ever gig.  Nothing was the same after that.

Dave is most grateful to both women, so when it came time to celebrate their birthdays….
