We have a release date for Green Day’s movie

Almost two years ago, we started hearing about a feature film that involved Green Day. Co-produced by Green Day and originally entitled New Years Rev, it’s described as a coming-of-age film where a young band heads to the Bay Area thinking that they’ve secured the opening slot for a New Year’s Eve gig featuring Green Day as headliners. Spoiler: They are mistaken.

New Years Rev has since been re-named Nimrods (a better title, don’t you think?) and is allegedly inspired by real events experienced by Green Day early in their career.

The director is Lee Clark and stars Mason Thames (The Black PhoneHow To Train Your Dragon) and Mckenna Grace (Scream 7Regretting You). Fred Armisen, Kylr Coffman, Ryan Foust, Jenna Fischer, and Bobby Lee also show up.

The film has already received its premiere–maybe you saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall–and now we have a theatrical release day. It will be released to cinemas on August 14.

If you missed the trailer, here it is.
