We have a release date for the Gord Downie/Bob Rock album–and a couple of new songs, too. Listen here.

For years, there were rumours about Gord Downie having made a solo album Canadian superproducer Bob Rock. If it did exist, where was it? What did it sound like? And would it ever be released?

Earlier this fall, we learned that the record exist and was called Lustre Parfait and was introduced through a single of the same name. This week, it was confirmed that the album will arrive May 5, which seems like a long way off. The good news is that a three-track EP has been released under the title he Raven and the Red-Tailed Hawk. It includes the title track, “Lustre Parfait” and “Is There Nowhere.”

We also know that this is a true collaboration. Gord provided the lyrics and Bob came up with the musical arrangements. The result is decidedly different from any Tragically Hip material or anything Gord recorded on his own.

Is it crazy to say he sounded a little like Morrissey in the beginning?
