We have winners with the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize

The Polaris Music Prize has been honouring great contemporary Canadian music for a decade-and-a-half now. But our musical history extends many decades before Polaris showed up. That’s why we have the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize, which seeks to celebrate great albums of the pre-Polaris years.

After both a public vote and discussion by a panel of jurors, this year’s winners include Beverly Glenn-Copeland‘s Keyboard Fantasies, an important 1986 futuristic folk/New Age album. You can learn more about her here.

Then we have Buffy Sainte-Marie’s 1964 debut album, It’s My Way!, which received a Heritage designation from the jury.

And another Heritage designation went to Main Source and their groundbreaking 1991 hip-hop record, Breaking Atoms.
