This Monday may have been a civic holiday across Canada, but the recorded music industry needs to know where they stand this week. Let’s begin with year-over-year comparisons of music sales and streaming.

  • Total album sales, -10.5%
  • CD sales, -5.2%
  • Digital albums, -26.8%
  • Digital tracks, -27.0%
  • Vinyl LPs +52.4% (Yes, that’s correct!)
  • On-demand audio streams: +13.6%

Now here’s how things last week compared to the week before:

  • Total album sales, -6.4%
  • CD sales, -2.4%
  • Digital albums, -5.7%
  • Digital tracks, -30.2%
  • Vinyl LPs, -16.3%
  • On-demand audio streams, -0.1% (2.059 billion streams in the country last week)
