Right on cue, Luminate, the company that watches over the sales and streaming progress of the Canadian recorded music industry, has their weekly numbers. We begin, as usual, comparing last week to the same week in 2021.

  • Total album sales, -11.5%
  • CD sales, -5.3%
  • Digital albums, -21.8%
  • Digital tracks, -20.7%
  • Vinyl LPs, -0.6%
  • On-demand audio streams, +12.9%

Now let’s look at last week compared to the week before.

  • Total album sales, -4.5%
  • CD sales, -13,9%
  • Digital albums, +2.9%
  • Digital tracks, -2.5%
  • Vinyl LPs, +5.0% (a bump thanks to Record Store Day)
  • On-demand audio streams, 3.1% (2.149 billion streams in the country last week)
