Weekly Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 06 September 2021

Labour Day or not, the Canadian recorded music industry needs its sales and streaming stats. Here’s how things shape up with this report from MRC Data, starting with comparing where we are now to where things were exactly a year ago.

  • Total album sales, -10.9%
  • CD sales, -4.4%
  • Digital albums, -27,8%
  • Digital tracks, -26.8%
  • Vinyl LPs, +49.9% (Vinyl unit sales are 42% that of all CD sales. Impressive.)
  • On-demand audio streams, +0.7%

Now week-over-week numbers:

  • Total album sales, +5.1%
  • CD sales, +3.9%
  • Digital albums, +13,9%
  • Digital tracks, -1.9%
  • Vinyl LPs, -9.0%
  • On-demand audio streams, +0.7% (1.930 billion streams in the country last week)
