Just before supper ET last night, the weekly Canadian music sales and streaming stats arrived from MRC. Let’s begin by taking a look at the year-over-year numbers. How were we doing one year ago compared to now?

  • Total albums sales, -1.6%
  • CD sales, +21.3%
  • Digital albums, -18.6%
  • Digital tracks, -20.2%
  • Vinyl LPs, +3.1%
  • On-demand audio streams, +12.4%

Now let’s compare last week to the week before.

  • Total album sales, -1.2%
  • CD sales, +0.5%
  • Digital albums, -5.5%
  • Digital tracks, -4.9%
  • Vinyl Lps, +4.4%
  • On-demand audio streams, +0.5% (2.039 billion streams in the country last week)
