Weekly Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 07 June 2021

On cue, just as I was watching Winnipeg Jets die a humiliating death, MRC Data delivered the information on how Canadian recorded music faired last week. Let’s begin with looking at year-over-year comparisons.

  • Total album sales, -9.6%
  • CD sales, -9.4%
  • Digital albums, -22.7%
  • Digital tracks, -26.6^
  • Vinyl LPs, +57.4% (that is correct!)
  • On-demand audio streams, +15.2%

What about week-over-week? Remember that the last report was heavily influenced the the release of The Tragically Hip’s Saskadelphia album. You can see the difference immediately.

  • Total album sales, -17.6%
  • CD sales, -14.9%
  • Digital albums, -24.1%
  • Digital tracks, -4.6%
  • Vinyl LP2, -24.1%
  • On-demand audio streams, +2.2% (1.940 billion streams in the country last week)
