Weekly Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 09 January 2023

With the exception of December 30 and 31 (which are included in this week’s stats), this is how 2023 shaped up through its first week. Let’s begin with the year-to-date figures (this report includes December 30 and 31).

  • Total album sales, -8.5%
  • CD sales, -7.1%
  • Digital albums, -15.3%
  • Digital tracks, -6.8%
  • Vinyl LPs, -0.9%
  • On-demand audio streams: +17.3%

Here’s a comparison of last week with the same week a year ago. The numbers are skewed by the way the calendar fell over the 2022 holidays.

  • Total album sales, -28.0%
  • CD sales, -30.3%
  • Digital albums, -18.6%
  • Digital tracks, -3.9%
  • Vinyl LPs, -34.2%
  • On-demand audio streams, -3.9% (2.135 billion streams in the country last week)
