Weekly Canadian music sales and streaming stats: 20 December 2021

The weekly report from MRC doesn’t usually come in until Monday evening. This week, however, the music industry got its numbers early.

Year-over-year comparisons:

  • Total album sales, -12.7%
  • CD sales, -8.1%
  • Digital albums, -26.6%
  • Digital tracks, -24.8%
  • Vinyl LPs, +20.9%
  • On-demand audio streams, +12.7%

Now let’s compare last week to the week previous.

  • Total album sales, +1.8%
  • CD sales, +7.2%
  • Digital albums, -10.3%
  • Digital tracks, -0.2%
  • Vinyl LPs, +3.9%
  • On-demand audio streams, +0.4% (2.122 billion streams in the country last week, another new record.
