Where are things going in 2023 as far as the Canadian recorded music industry is concerned? Let’s look at the latest numbers

Year-over-year comparisons:

  • Total album sales, -8.1%
  • CD sales, -7.9%
  • Digital albums, -18.6%
  • Digital tracks, -7.2%
  • Vinyl LPs, +12.5%
  • On-demand audio streams, -17.2%

Comparing last week to the week before:

  • Total album sales, +0.7%
  • CD sales, +2.9%
  • Digital albums, -6.5%’
  • Digital tracks, -1.1%
  • Vinyl LPs, +8.1%
  • On-demand audio streams, +1.4% (2.426 billion streams in Canada last week, an all-time record I think.)
