MRC Data dropped their weekly stats update Monday evening. How did the Canadian recorded music industry do in the week that included the second Record Store Day of the year?

Year-over-year comparisons:

  • Total album sales, -10/0%
  • CD sales, -5.9%
  • Digital albums, -25.6%
  • Digital tracks, -26.9%
  • Vinyl LPs, +52.7% (NOT a typo)
  • On-demand audio streams, +13.8%

Now let’s compare last week with the week before:

  • Total album sales, +7.6%
  • CD sales, +3.7%
  • Digital albums, 7.4%
  • Digital tracks, 0.0%
  • Vinyl LPs, +18.8%
  • On-demand audio streams, +0.6% (2.062 billion streams in the country last week)
