Weekly survey: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen at a gig?
Earlier this month, a metal band called Smack’d Up played a Christmas charity gig in Sacramento, California. Unable to get the crowd into the show, the vocalist started throwing all kinds of shade on the city and the audience.
This went on for a while before a man dressed as Santa strode through the crowd, mounted the stage and proceeded to kick the crap out of the singer. Naturally, there’s video.
When I saw this, i though “That’s something you don’t see every day. I wonder what other weird things have happened at gigs?”
So there’s your final survey question for 2018. You must have seen something strange at a music event. Like what? Lemme know.
As a member of the band performing, or as a member of the audience? I’ve seen quite a bit in my career as a musician.
Either. What have you got?
At a punk show, that wasn’t supposed to be a punk show, I saw my all time favourite horrible bands. At this one particular show, while the singer was singing his song about the band being attacked by Zombies during their rehearsal, the drummer got a little excited and knocked over one of his cymbalsd stands…but no worry, his mom was at the show and came up on stage and put the cymbal stand back in it’s place. This happened a couple more times during the set and by the third time the mom had come up on stage, she decided to just stay on stage and watch the cymbal stands. First and only time I had ever seen a mom drum tech.
At Metallica I saw a porta-potty get pushed over with someone in it. I couldn’t even describe what happened next.
