Weekly survey: Would you go to a concert with unvaccinated people?

While Canada is taking a very, very cautious approach to restarting live music, the U.S. doesn’t seem to be worried about the Delta variant. More than 100,000 people a day jammed into Grant Park in Chicago for four days of Lollapalooza. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is on now in South Dakota with hundreds of thousands in attendance. Festivals continue to run throughout the country, even though there have been COVID outbreaks.

To be fair, these aren’t free-for-alls (with the exception of Sturgis, of course). You need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within X hours of the event. But given what we’ve heard of fake vaccination cards, you gotta wonder exactly how tight these restrictions are being upheld.

So to this week’s question: Would you go to one of these shows? You may be vaccinated, but it would mean being together with those who are (theoretically) negative but still unvaccinated?

    • You do realize vaccination just mitigates symptoms and that vaccinated people get and spread covid and all its variants just like an unvaccinated person. An unvaccinated person may have worse symptoms if they contract covid- that is the ONLY difference. Being vaccinated does not make us 100% immune…

      • You’re right. No vaccine is 100% effective. However, a vaccine keeps you from being admitted to the hospital and dying. Sounds like a good trade to me.

    • Yes. I’m vaccinated and there is nothing else coming in the future to make me any safer. At this point, it’s unvaccinated people that need to worry. We will never get to 100% vaccination so we will always be around people who are unvaccinated.

  • I’m All for having to provide proof of vaccination to go see Live music. The delta variant and whatever comes after has shown that the virus is not going away anytime soon.

  • Am vaccinated, but at present, I would have to say “No”.

  • If all goes as planned, I’m flying down to the states at the end of this month to see a number of outdoor concerts. Will be masking up and being cautious while at the shows as well as doing regular testing of myself. I’m more worried for the unvaccinated folks at shows rather than of them. You can be a carrier either way, so everyone should be tested. With the vaccine, even if I did get a breakthrough infection, it should be a milder case. I’m not willing to give up concerts for any longer.
