Weezer gets into the NFT game with OK Crypto

Given their record of trying different things, it should come as no surprise that Weezer is most interested in the concept of NFTs (non-fungible tokens.) Fans on their mailing list got this email yesterday. I quote:

Introducing OK Crypto

OK Humans, we’re not done with you just yet. OK Cryptos are coming to your screens. So get ready to stare and embrace this new technology.

Earlier this year, we reached out to Death By Toys to create a custom =w= toy related to every song on OK Human. We thought about selling them individually in our store, but liked them so much we wanted more than 12 people to enjoy them too. So we digitized them and now they’ll be sold on the blockchain. Oh, and we’re also giving away the 12 original, one of a kind physical toys golden-ticket style.

OK Crypto will be available on WAX starting on Wednesday, April 28th, at 10AM PT/1PM ET. The limited edition crypto collectibles (aka NFTs) will be released in sets of 10 (“standard”) or 25 (“mega”) and each pack contains different digital cards with different rarities. Hidden in 12 of the packs will be a golden ticket that is redeemable for one of the handmade toys that inspired the collection.

Why WAX?

We want to make our first experience on the blockchain fun and accessible to everyone. You’ll be able to purchase using your credit card and it won’t include any of the gas fees (aka service fees) you may have heard about.

WAX also uses 1% of the amount of energy that Etherum and others use so no issues there either. There are no auctions, just two sets of limited edition packs that go for $20 or $40 depending on the size. And you can use real money from a credit card, not Bitcoin. Very simple.

To kick things off and get you familiar with how things work, starting tomorrow at 11am PT we’re GIVING AWAY 1,000 FREE OK CRYPTO NFTs. You’ll need to set up a WAX wallet ahead of time and take note of your wallet address.

1. go to wallet.wax.io and sign-up
2. once you’re signed up, your wallet address will be in the top right corner once you’re logged on

We’ll post the URL for the free drop tomorrow at 11am PT on socials, but in the meantime here’s even more info.
