Well, That Foo Fighters Album Title Wasn’t Much of a Surprise, Was It?

If you’re going to have an HBO series on the making of the new Foos album–and if you’re going to call that series Sonic Highways--it kinda makes sense to call the album Sonic Highways, too.  Doesn’t it?

Why, yes it does.  And Sonic Highways will be the title of the Foos’ eighth album–and the release date will be November 10.  But there’s a twist.

Just like when Led Zeppelin released In Through the Out Door with four different covers (you didn’t know which one you were buying, either, because the were covered up in brown paper before being shrink-wrapped), Sonic Highways will come with nine unique covers along with some exclusive limited edition swag bundles.  Dave Grohl, a massive Zep fan–ask to see his tattoo some time–must have dreamed of the day he’d be in a band which could do something similar.  Or bigger. If you pre-order, you’ll be sent one of the nine versions at random.

Here’s your track listing:

1. Something From Nothing
2. The Feast and The Famine
3. Congregation
4. What Did I Do?/God As My Witness
5. Outside
6. In The Clear
7. Subterranean
8. I Am A River

Huh.  Eight songs with a running time for 44 minutes (4+4= 8).  Recorded in eight different studios in eight different cities (Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, and Washington, D.C_ for the eighth album.

Sonic Highways (the series) premieres on HBO on October 17 at 11pm ET.  Meanwhile, how many “eights” can you find in this artwork?
