We’re finally getting a documentary on CREEM magazine

If you’re of a certain age, you’ll remember going to the newsstand for music mags like Rolling Stone, Circus, and CREEM, each of which served a different purpose. Rolling Stone offered in-depth music coverage as well as a healthy dose of politics. Circus was glossy with lots of pictures and short-form stories and profiles. And CREEM? Boy howdy, it was different.

CREEM was published in Detroit, which gave it a mid-America look at what was happening with music. It was irreverent, punk-friendly, and had some great writing from journalists like Lester Bangs and Dave Marsh. They also had the cheek to call themselves “American’s Only Rock’n’Roll Magazine.”

There’s now a documentary coming in August. Check out the trailer.
