WestJet adds a music twist with its introduction of Dreamliners to its fleet

WestJet’s ambitious expansion continues. For years, the airline followed the Southwest model, sticking to operating just 737s on a network restricted to just North America. A couple of years back, WestJet acquired some 767s and began offering transatlantic flights. Those jets were fine to get things started but tend to be thirsty and inefficient. The next leap was to acquire new 787 Dreamliners.

WestJet is now operating the type from Calgary to London/Gatwick, Paris/CDG, and Dublin. To make the experience a little extra special by commissioning some special boarding music from Sean Jones. From the press release:

“For the first time in Canadian music history, guests will hear a soundtrack of soulful music onboard an aircraft from Canadian Juno award-winning recording artist Sean Jones.

“During boarding guests are treated to original music and classic covers of iconic Canadian artists – like The Band, Sarah McLachlan and The Guess Who – that Jones drew inspiration from for his album.

“The album is available for download and the story behind The Boarding Sessions is available to watch onboard WestJet’s Dreamliners.”

Neat. I wonder what inflight entertainment options they’ll have? Hey, WestJet! I have experience at creating this sort of thing with your competitor. Call me?
